Everything You Need To Know About Hop Culture’s Juicy Brews Saturday Morning Digital Craft Beer Festival

December 14, 2020 by Kenny

Everyone loves beer. And everyone loves breakfast. So why not throw a festival celebrating two of the greatest things life has to offer?

For our 33rd beer festival, we’re doing exactly that. Starting at 12:00 PM EST on Wednesday, 12/16/20, you’ll be able to purchase a ticket to the Juicy Brews Saturday Morning Digital Craft Beer Festival that includes a box of 18 beers shipped directly to your door. Each box will also contain a color-changing spoon, miniature cereal box, one of four different collectible plush prizes, and four ounces of excellent coffee from Bean Culture x De Fer, just to get you in the breakfast mood. A full day of digital content (including tastings, panels, and workshops) is accessible to anyone and will be aired across YouTube on 2/20/21.

Tickets for Juicy Brews Saturday Morning Are Live Now

And because this is our first festival since Hop Culture was acquired by Next Glass, parent company to Untappd, Untappd for Business, Beer Advocate, and Oznr, we’re pulling out all the stops. We’re bringing some of our favorite breweries from around the country, many of which are making one-off beers for the event. And everyone is sending a “breakfast-themed” beer — think pancake stouts (thanks, Great Notion!), smoothie sours, orange juice IPAs, coffee porters, and more.

Tickets can be purchased here and we’ve tried to answer all questions below! And if you have a question without an answer, feel free to shoot us a note via email to hello@hopculture.com or on Instagram at @hopculturemag.

How To Make Chocolate Beer Cake

March 24, 2020 by Kenny

If you’re engaging in social distancing, why not try a new recipe? This easy-as-pie (er, cake) recipe for Hop Culture’s chocolate beer cake will take you less than an hour, including cooking time. It’s the perfect treat for anyone who likes beer, chocolate, or cake. Which is probably everyone.

Our recipe adds a little Guinness Extra Stout from the St. James’s Gate Brewery in Dublin, but you can use any stout or porter. For a Black Forest version, try a cherry Berliner Weiss. If the weather is cold, why not try a winter beer bread with one of our best beers to drink this winter? Same goes with our best beers to drink for spring.

Since you’re staying inside, you can always sign up for HelloFresh, or order your groceries on Amazon Prime. These options are like our favorite beer delivery services, except with food.

Of course, if chocolate cake isn’t your thing (!?), you can always try another one of our recipes. We’ve got you covered with beer bread as well as a hot and tasty beer and bacon cheese dip.

Recipe for Chocolate Beer Cake

The Ingredients

1 + 3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup cocoa
2 cup sugar
1 + 1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 cup canola oil
1 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla
1/4 cup beer
Icing
Cooking spray

The Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Spray a bread pan with cooking spray.
Gently mix together dry ingredients (flour, cocoa, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder) until thoroughly combined.
Add wet ingredients (eggs, canola oil, milk, vanilla, beer) and mix until thoroughly combined
Pour the batter into the bread pan.
Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
Take out of the oven and let sit for five minutes. Cover with icing.
Remove and serve.

How To Make Beer Bread

January 31, 2020 by Kenny

Everyone likes bread. And the best part? It’s so easy to make. A little flour, a little sugar, a little salt, a dash of baking powder. If you can turn on an oven, a passible loaf is firmly within your grasp.

For a unique twist, try adding beer to your recipe. In the video above, we used a Hop Nosh IPA from Uinta Brewing Company, though pilsners and stouts also work well. If the weather is cold, why not try a winter beer bread with one of our best beers to drink this winter? Same goes with our best beers to drink for spring.

If you don’t feel like getting off the couch, you can always sign up for HelloFresh, or order your groceries on Amazon Prime. These options are like our favorite beer delivery services, except with food. Otherwise, read on for Hop Culture’s Beer Bread Recipe.

How To Make Beer Bacon Cheese Dip

January 30, 2020 by Kenny

With the Super Bowl just around the culture, the Hop Culture team started thinking. What’s the best beer near every NFL stadium? And once we got that covered, what beer-inspired recipes could we make for our friends?

Okay, in actuality, we’re cooking for our plants and cats. But the question remained. And that’s when we came up with this tasty recipe for Beer Bacon Cheese Dip.

It’s yummy and comforting. It’s exactly what you want to eat while watching a bunch of grown men pound each other into a pulp. And the best part? It’s damn simple, using only a loaf of bread, two types of cheese, bacon, and beer. That simplicity is important because we’re guessing you’re not trying this recipe sober.

We should note that although we chose an IPA, you can use any style of beer in this recipe. We don’t recommend sour beer, but hey — it’s your dip.

If you don’t feel like getting off the couch, you can always sign up for HelloFresh, or order your groceries on Amazon Prime. These options are like our favorite beer delivery services, except with food. Otherwise, read on for Hop Culture’s Beer Bacon Cheese Dip Recipe.

Beer Bacon Cheese Dip Recipe

The Ingredients

1 Round Loaf of Bread
1 container (10-ounce) cheese dip
1 package (8-ounce) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup bacon bits
1/3 cup beer

The Instructions

Carefully (carefully!) hollow out the loaf of bread, saving the middle for later
In a large, microwave-safe mixing bowl, add the cheese dip, cream cheese, bacon bits, and beer
Mix ingredients until dip is smooth
Microwave dip on high for two minutes
Pour dip into the hollow portion of the bread
Cut up the middle of the bread for dipping
And that’s it! Enjoy that cheesy dip.

Hop Culture Returns To Charlotte For The Juicy Brews Balls To The Wall Craft Beer Festival

January 29, 2020 by Kenny

What’s up Queen City! It’s your boy Kenny G with some pretty juicy news — on March 21st, 2020, Hop Culture is coming back to Charlotte to throw the Juicy Brews Balls To The Wall Craft Beer Festival with Resident Culture Brewing. For those of you keeping note, we came to Charlotte on the same weekend last year and threw Juicy Brews March Madness. This year, we changed the name because we really didn’t want to get sued.

The New Stuff

Copyrights and trademarks aside, this is definitely one of the coolest beer festivals we do. It’s a bunch of the best breweries in the country, in Charlotte, with killer music, terrific food, and a full court basketball game. Not that I’m the best three point shooter in the world, but I’m a Duke English major with a penchant for Coach K, and Resident Culture co-founder Phillip McLamb is a former UNC basketball player. Last year, this was one of our best events, and this year it’s only going to get better.

So throw on those Nikes. Wear your jerseys. Crush some beautiful beer with some incredibly talented brewers. This is a beer festival!

One big difference from last year is that we’re holding the event at Resident Culture’s Beer Garden Space, located just across from Discovery Place in Uptown Charlotte. We’ll have more room than the Resident Culture Parking Lot but the same intimate atmosphere, and a beautiful view of Uptown.

The Brewery List

In addition to the theme and location, I’m excited about our list. One of my greatest pleasures is working with hugely talented entrepreneurs and businesspeople across the country, and I enjoy bringing them to the places I’m excited about. From Pittsburgh, we’ve got Dancing Gnome. From Connecticut, we’ve got New Park. Heck, Cellador Ales and The Rare Barrel are flying all the way in from California! And if you haven’t heard of some of these cats, all the better, because you’ll get to experience them for the first time. Check out this list:

Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending
Casita Cerveceria
Cellador Ales
Cerebral Brewing
Dancing Gnome Brewery
Divine Barrel Brewing
Fonta Flora Brewery
Free Range Brewing
Halfway Crooks Beer
Heist Brewery
HopFly Brewing Co.
Incendiary Brewing Company
New Park Brewing
Mast Landing Brewing Company
Perennial Artisan Ales
Protagonist Beer
Resident Culture Brewing Company
Salud Cerveceria
The Eighth State Brewing Company
The Rare Barrel
Triple Crossing Beer
Tröegs Independent Brewing
Two Villains Brewing
Vitamin Sea Brewing
Wooden Robot Brewery
Zillicoah Beer Company

The Festival Details

Now that’s a list, baby! Juiced to the absolute max. I should also mention this is the first festival at which we’ll have Vitamin Sea since we named them our 2019 Brewery of the Year — the first time in Hop Culture history a brewery has ever been given the title in their first year of operation.

So color me stoked. Although I’m from Pittsburgh, I went to high school in Charlotte (hence my 704 area code), and the only reason we’d go downtown was for Bobcat games. Now the city is undoubtedly cool.

The festival will be held in one session from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 406 N. Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte. You can get your tickets here.

Let’s boogie.

Yours truly,

Kenny G

Postcard: Spooky Brews Vol. II in Boston, MA

November 7, 2019 by Kenny

Thank you, Boston!

For the second year in a row, we threw a sold-out Halloween party and craft beer festival. And we didn’t just throw a festival. We threw a PARTY.

The beer was fresh and flowing. DJ cakewalk turned the room into a dance floor. About 80 percent of our guests came in costume, as well as 100 percent of the brewers. One hundo p! Although Dino Furnari at Vitamin Sea had the most clever costume (the pattern of his shirt matched the rug from The Shining), Divine Barrel stole the show with “Fat Thor.”

When we held this festival last year, it really changed the way I thought about events. Prior to Spooky Brews Vol. I, we simply threw beer festivals. Cool venues, no lines, unlimited pours. Instead of volunteers, we put brewers in hotels so they could pour their own product.

But at Spooky Brews Vol. I, I saw what festivals could be — not just events, but experiences. I didn’t want people to say, “That was an awesome beer festival,” but instead, “That was an awesome party.” That single event altered our course and led us down a path toward more experiential events. Juicy Brews Island Getaway, Juicy Brews March Madness, Juicy Brews Homecoming… all of these thematic experiences are a result of the epic time we had in Boston.

A huge thank you to the venue, Drydock Hall at the Center for Innovation and Design, as well as to Craft Collective for being our official distribution partner and making sure the beer stayed cold. We couldn’t have held the event without the support of our sponsors, Tavour and Schofferhofer, as well as our vendors: Granite State Candles, Green Mountain Energy, Toni Vlado, and Hello Fresh. Shoutout to Sam Taylor for killing the glassware yet again. Of course, we appreciate all the brewers who put on costumes and brought amazing beer:

Allagash Brewing Company
Aslin Beer Company
Barreled Souls Brewing
Branch and Blade Brewing Company
Channel Marker Brewing Company
Crime and Punishment Brewing Co.
Deciduous Brewing Company
Definitive Brewing Company
Divine Barrel Brewing
Kings Brewing Company
Kinsmen Brewing
Lamplighter Brewing Co.
Mast Landing Brewing Co.
Night Shift Brewing Company
Pretentious Beer Co.
Proclamation Ale Company
Shacksbury Cider
Southern Grist Brewing Company
Stellwagen Beer Company
Twin Elephant Brewing Company
Vitamin Sea Brewing
Widowmaker Brewing
Zillicoah Beer Co.

Last but not least, mad props to everyone who came to get spooky with us! We had an amazing time at Spooky Brews Vol. II. See you next year for Vol. III?

Best,
Kenny Gould
Founder, Hop Culture
