We’ve reached that odd time of year between major holidays when many find themselves somewhere between the bliss of long weekends spent with family and “OMG, I can’t take this anymore!” Distract yourself by perusing this edition of the Hoplinks.

This week, a film about beer comes out, someone puts beer in an advent calendar, a medal gets returned, and a site tells you which new bars are cool. Check out this week’s Hoplinks and let us know what else is going on in the world of beer!

LOGAN SQUARE, CHICAGO – Fellow beer site BeerFX will premier the new short film “Barrel Aged” at the Logan Auditorium on Saturday, December 13th. Tickets are on sale for $40 and you can check out the trailer and event details here.

NORTH CENTER, CHICAGO – December may already be upon us, but it’s never too late for a beer advent calendar! Our friends at Bottles & Cans have put together their version which is available for purchase for $75 plus tax.

CHICAGO – In a very strange turn of events, Colorado Spring’s Trinity Brewing has returned their silver medal from FoBAB. Trinity received the medal in the Wild/Brett category, despite accidentely shipping a different beer brewed with Lactobacillus, and no Brett, to the festival.

CHICAGO – Crain’s dives into local retailer’s effort to create “third places” (outside of home and work) in an effort to bring consumer back to their brick and mortar outlets. Watch maker Shinola will partner with Logan Square’s Trencherman to cater events and beer tastings.

USA – Thrillist has named their “Best New Bars of 2014” in many major cities, including Chicago. Did your go-to make the list?
