In this week’s Hoplinks, Chicago shares plenty of beer news. Northcenter gets a new traditional-focused brewery, Avondale boosts production, Lakeview celebrates an anniversary. And out in Seattle, a topical look at the definition of craft beer, via a new “subculture” focused podcast. Cheers.

NORTHCENTER, CHICAGO – Get ready for the city’s newest brewery, Chicago. Begyle Brewing’s new neighbors, Dovetail Brewery, opens this Saturday 6/11. Housed in a massive former materials warehouse–and practically flying entirely under the radar–Dovetail will open it’s doors at Belle Plaine & Ravenswood to showcase it’s impressive lineup of traditional German, Czech and Belgian styles. Stay tuned for our interview with them next week. [THR Wire]

RAVENSWOOD, CHICAGO – Time Out Chicago announced it’s winners of the 2016 Chicago Bar Awards. As expected, some standout selections. But maybe more intriguing were the list of finalists in each category, including ‘Best Beer Bar.’ [Time Out]

LAKEVIEW, CHICAGODryHop Brewers will be celebrating their 3rd anniversary (already, yikes), and has a great lineup scheduled to celebrate–including a limited lychee kettle sour release. [THR Wire]

AVONDALE, CHICAGONewly minted 50th top brewery in the U.S., Revolution Brewing, will likely continue to climb up that list of top producers. This week they finished the installation of their four new (massive) fermenters. That’ll bring them from 63,000 barrels in 2015 to 120,000 by end of next year. Cheers to that. [Twitter]

GRANT PARK, CHICAGO – Next week kicks off the 2nd Chicago Ale Fest, June 17 & 18 at Buckingham Fountain. Once marred by a suspicious false start, having cancelled the 2014 event, this gathering has quickly become one of the better takes on the massive beer fest. Sure, it’ll likely still have some hiccups, but that skyline view is tough to beat. Tickets still available. [THR Wire]

CHICAGO, ILA twitter account we highly suggest you follow, @ChicagoBars, has shared a very valuable Google Map: “Chicago’s liquor licensed patios as of May 2016.” Happy [al fresco] drinking.

MILWAUKEE, WIIn case you missed it, Chicago’s West Side Like Minds Brewing, has announced it’s scheduled opening date as a loose “late June,” for it’s new Milwaukee location. You may recall that Wisconsin laws originally sent their operation to Chicago. Now, they’re looking at a double-footprint Like Minds setup. [Milwaukee Magazine]

SEATTLE, WA – Public Radio Exchange podcast “Benjamen Walker’s Theory of Everything” explores craft beer subculture–covering the growth in popularity, big beer’s deception and the ever-contested definition of “craft beer.” Nothing earth shattering here, but a quick listen for those looking for a very Ira-Glass-esque styled conversation with craft brewers.
