American Beer Week
Excitement is already building about this year’s American Craft Beer Week. This May 15-21 the 12th annual celebration will take place. Brewers, it’s time to start planning and posting your ACBW events.
Japan, Mexico and Heineken
Japan’s Kirin brewery gave up on trying to survive Brazil’s beer market, and sold its assets to Heineken. This $700 million deal makes Heineken the third largest beer company in the world, and the second largest in Brazil behind AB InBev. Brazil has the third largest beer market in the world, which could mean a lot if Heineken can learn to learn to thrive in the struggling economy.
Beer Out of Bonsai Trees
A brewery, Cervecería Heroica, in Brazil took creative beer ingredients to a whole new level when he started using branches and juniper berries from $20,000 bonsai trees in his beer. Some of the bonsai trees are over 100 years old, having been passed down for generations. The brewers are also looking to incorporate ingredients from local Brazilian trees.
Colorado Craft Beer Week
This year’s Colorado Craft Beer Week will be held in Denver March 18-25. There will be a beer and pancake run hosted by Great Divide, and a tailgate featuring collaboration brews made specifically for the fest.
First we had the shower beer, and now we can have one on the toilet too. An Etsy account called SOLIDink3d is selling a toilet paper holder with an attachment on either side to hold your beer or wine glass. It’s 3D printed with strong plastic and is available for $20 in ten different colors.
